Shaun Palmer is part of a high caste system called: the super-pros. Pro snowboarders who went just that bit further in their line of work, who built myths around themselves, turning their names into a higher denomination than an ordinary person. Sort of living legends.

The first time I saw him, I must’ve been about 14,and it was the U.S open, I remember waving to him, in awe, and he just shot off without saying a word. I was so disappointed, but looking back, it was that attitude that made me admire him so much. Afterwards, I had the chance to hang out with him at contests and at training too. He was always faithful to himself, he had this crazy aura about him. Shaun is one of the rare pros that I totally respect, for everything he gave to the world of snowboarding, this attitude, this unique lifestyle, he made it all so much more than just a plain sport, so much more than simple snowboarding.
He had this punk attitude about him, and no one dared tell him how to live or how to ride, he was capable, just like that, between mates, to give you the biggest one foots that you’ve ever seen. A way of saying, « Fuck you, » to the system, to the whole world.
I don’t know anybody with as much character and vibes as this guy, and boy, I was totally drawn to it.
He played a big part in this counterculture, and I used to read about him when I was little in Thrasher Magazine, which covered the entire skateboarding scene at the time. Everything about him screamed the truth, no pretence, and if you’d have seen him like I saw him, putting on his straps up the top of the slopes, going faster than anyone, doing tricks that only he could do, you would’ve said the same as me:
